Mission & Purpose
 
The mission of the Society of Modern Psychoanalysts is to foster training, research and dissemination of information among a broad spectrum of individuals interested in Modern Psychoanalysis.
 
The Primary Purposes of the SMP are:
 
  1. Establish a membership of modern psychoanalysts and modern psychoanalytic institutes.
  2. Provide a continuing information forum for those who utilize Modern Psychoanalytic principles in their clinical practice, writing, research, teaching or administration.
  3. Publish training standards for modern psychoanalysts.
  4. Foster research.
  5. Disseminate information concerning Modern Psychoanalytic theory and technique through publications, lectures, workshops, etc.
  6. Represent Modern Psychoanalysts nationally and internationally as a theory and treatment technique.
  7. Represent Modern Psychoanalysis at forums and conferences.
  8. Establish a Registry of analysts certified for membership.
 
ARTICLE II
 

Membership

Section 1.

 
Any person or institute interested in becoming a member, shall submit to the Membership Committee a written and signed application on the form provided by the corporation. 
 

Section 2.

Eligibility

 
Individual membership is open to persons who apply modern psychoanalytic principles to their clinical practice and have met the standards defined below: 
  1. Individuals
  2. Institutional Applicants
 

Section 3.

Review Procedures

 
All individual applicants shall be reviewed by the Membership Committee. All insitute applicants shall be reviewed by the Institute Membership COmmittee. On approval of the application by a majority of the committee, and payment of the required application fee and dues, the applicant shall become a member of the corporation.
 
Any applicant not approved by the Membership Committee shall have the privilege of review by the Board of Trustees at the next regularly scheduled meeting, or at an ad hoc meeting called for that purpose.
