May 27 -June 3 -On May 27, 2000, members of The Society of
Modern Psychoanalysts and their families are embarking on a conference experience that will begin with an actual
embarkation aboard a Holland America cruise ship. The MS Zaandam in its maiden season will be the vessel that will
take our members into the Western Caribbean. The professional program aboard the Zaandam
will have as its focus The State of Training in Modern Psychoanalysis and our Vision for the Future and will include
discussions led by faculty and administrators of SMP training institutes. These meetings will be held in the mornings
when the ship is at sea. Thus we combine professional advancement with the enjoyment of shipboard pleasures. This spectacular ship provides all the amenities
and activities that a five star cruise ship allows. It is a luxury liner with spacious staterooms equipped with
an array of five star comforts, lovely dining rooms, dazzling entertainment in nightclubs and lounges and shipboard
activities that range from indoor and outdoor pools, jogging/walking track, tennis courts, and gym to a full-service
spa. The cruise begins in Fort Lauderdale and after
a day at sea our exciting itinerary takes us to the port of Playa del Carmen on the sunny Yucatan Peninsula. From
there we go to Tulum—the only Mayan city built on the sea. There will be an opportunity for walking tours of Chichen
Itza or horseback riding along the picturesque shores of Cozumel. We will then cruise to Grand Cayman, famous for
its talcum-soft Seven Mile Beach. After another day at sea, we arrive at Jamaica’s Ocho Rios noted for the spectacular
Dunn’s River Falls. Finally, we alight at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas before returning to Fort Lauderdale. Our group receives a 45% reduction from published
fares. Participants may choose Mini Suites with verandahs which cost approximately $1600 per person or outside
staterooms without verandah at $1200-1300. In addition there is a SMP conference fee of $150 per person. There
is still time to participate in this exciting conference tour.
